If you’re looking for an author to interview and Stephen King isn’t responding to your emails, maybe I can help.
I think it would be fair to say I haven’t followed the traditional path to becoming a full-time author. For starters, I’m from a distinctly working-class background and never attended university. I’m not from a journalistic background and I’ve never attended a creative writing class. I am one of a new breed of authors – literary entrepreneurs.
I self-published my first novel in 2016 and at the time of writing (March 2020), I’m working on my tenth. Over that period, I’ve sold over 150,000 books and my income this year is likely to be three times the national average. I say that not to boast, but to demonstrate how authors like me are bypassing the gatekeepers of traditional publishing to forge a successful career (in the process, turning down offers from said gatekeepers).
If you’re looking to interview an author who isn’t simply trying to plug their latest book and has a different take on the publishing industry, I’d be more than happy to share my views and advice.
