I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog lately (translation: I’ve not had a lot to say), so I thought I should poke my head up and offer a quick update before you all assume I’ve retired to a commune in the Highlands.
After rattling out nineteen novels in eight years, the grey matter eventually staged a sit-down protest and demanded a breather. So I’ve spent the past few months recharging — less hammering at the keyboard, more coffee drinking, and some long-overdue maintenance on life itself.
That doesn’t mean I’ve been idle. Alongside plotting the next book(s), I’ve been working on a few other projects — one of which is a literary and publishing-related podcast with my fellow author buddy, Adam Eccles. It’s called Buy My Bloody Books and will be launching this autumn. We’ll be interviewing a number of fellow authors too, so it won’t just be two middle-aged blokes moaning into microphones. Expect humour, frank chats, and industry insights from those of us daft enough to write books for a living.
As for the writing, I’ve got two projects lined up. One’s a novella — still very much in my usual style, but with a slight genre sidestep. The other is a full-length novel, a sort of tenuous follow-up to Waiting in The Sky. I’ll be making a start on one of them in the autumn, once the brain cells have finished sulking.
So, nothing immediate to announce, but there something on the horizon. And to those who’ve sent messages asking when the next book will land — thank you for reminding me that what I do actually matters to some people. It’s more appreciated than you can imagine. ♥️
