An introduction to my most popular character, with the ideal reading order and over the two different series in which he features.
Who is Clement?
Clement is a former London gangland fixer who claims he died in 1975 and now finds himself compelled to put a few things right as penance.
He’s blunt, denim-clad, allergic to bullshit, and—despite his dubious past—has a knack for helping people who’ve run out of options.
His first appearance is in Who Sent Clement?.
Where to start (reading order)
If you’re new to Clement, read these in order:
That quartet forms the original Clement arc. If you’ve read those, there’s more below.
The comeback — The Angel of Camden
After the original run, Clement returned in the most unlikely of places… America. Start here:
These are fresh stories that stand on their own, but long-time readers will spot the familiar moral compass, the industrial language, and the inevitable chaos that follows when Clement gets involved. I’m currently planning a third book in the series and that should land in the first half of 2026. Hopefully, it won’t be the last featuring the big man, but that depends on reader demand, reviews, and sales.
Why do readers latch onto him?
- Redemption with sharp elbows: Clement’s trying to balance old sins with new deeds—just don’t expect him to hold hands while he does it.
- Fish out of time: A ’70s operator negotiating modern life is both funny and oddly touching.
- High-stakes fixes: Ordinary people in impossible scrapes; Clement turns up with unorthodox solutions and zero patience for polite society.
Do the books connect to the others?
The Clement books are their own thing, but if you’ve read widely across my novels you’ll notice shared locations, sly nods, and the occasional Easter egg. You don’t need a spreadsheet to enjoy them—just start at Who Sent Clement? and keep going.
